Emo Kids: How Young is Too Young?
Too young to be an Emo kid? Usually when we speak of “Emo kids,” we’re talking about high-schoolers or college students who have adopted the emotionally sensitive, dark-dressing culture as their own. But I’ve heard recently about a trend that emphasizes the “kid” in Emo kid. In other words, more and more children under 13 are getting involved in the lifestyle. While it’s fine for anyone, no matter how young, to choose the hairstyle and clothing style and even the music of the Emos, please keep an eye out for your brothers and sisters and little cousins.
There have been reports of some getting piercings or tattoos or cutting themselves, as per some of the darker Emo trends. Also, kids should wait until they’re a bit older before they start despairing about how terrible life is and how emotionally distraught they are. Emos, talk to your kid siblings and encourage them to be kids first, Emo second.

look being emo isnt all about emotional distress and cutting. Emo is now more of a fasion type. not all “emo kids” cut, pierce, or get tattoos. being emo isnt being dark and demonic thats more gothic. to be emo you have to have the hair & clothing style. to be a true emo you also listen to the music like my chemical romance and bands kinda like them. you dont have to cut urself to be emo. i think that you dont have to be a certian age to be emo. any age is perfect.

I am 10 yrs old and I am so emo. I have the hair the clothes and everything else to be emo. My parents dont even know what emo means and I do wear color emo isnt wearing black and grey. Thats gothic. look, i used to cut myself years ago and have wised up and quit doing so, but am still often called emo and consider myself so. Emo may be shortened from the word ‘emotional’ but come on, emotional does not mean depressed. Depressed does not mean cutting themselves. Cutting does not mean emo.
Anyone can feel emotional whether it be happy, lonely, annoyed, hyper. They are all emotions.
Anyone can feel depressed, whatever age, sex, race. Anyone!

I am emo. Im 13…i cut myself because i have depression, sure i have almost everything i want, but i cant control my feelings. And also, kids should be able to chose how they dress, its part of finding who they are. Im not in control of a lot of things in my life, but the two things i am in control of are

my 10 year old son is an ‘emo/greebo’, whatever that means. as far as we know it is all about the look. not cutting yourself etc. I hope we have instilled enough comon sense into him not to do things like that. I have to agree, “emo” is a fashion, just like prep, goth and skater.
I know plenty of people who are not emo who cut themselves, myself included. I also know plenty of people who are emo who cut themselves. I also know people who are emo but do not cut.
It depends on the person and their personal situation.
I think a style that glorifies emotional problems, self injury and suicide is just sick (as in sick in the head).
You should be yourself and stick to your personal beliefs. Don’t say “Oh, I’m gonna cut because someone else I know does it,”
It’s like drugs. It IS an addiction, and you will get hooked.
I’m all for Emo as a style. I love the clothes, the hair, the glasses.
But, it is a STYLE, which shouldn’t be confused with a LIFESTYLE.

hi iam pete the one who wrote thoses two messages that were long. so i got to say i think people and perpys are getting mad at us because we are emo. and now that we are emo we have stolen the spot light from the perpys and others , because of the news about us and our way of looking at life , and few cuts on wrist or arms,even to emo suides and killing,by the way when news were on about a girl who was 13 years old ,who’s name was hannah and she hung herself from the bunk bed to the floor she didnt even touch the floor from an inch. I’m not sure how to take your blog Daniel. Do you mean ‘interesting’ as far as we are some sort of “species” if you will? Just for the record I don’t think that there is ever an age where it is too “young” to be “emo”. A small child of six can have endured more pain that a man or women of 40 but it doesn’t mean they understand or even know what emo is. But they do have the right and the sensibility to wish to be dead or not existent due to their situation. So no there should be no age limit put on how young one can be to feel extreme misery and pain. And most importantly there should be no age limit put on how young one can be to wish to be rid of that misery and pain.
btw, “emo girl 3 eva” i think that for some reason you see this as a glamorous life style? Sorry but then you must want attention or something. So please do tell us. Whats so bad in your life that you feel that you have to show off how emo you are? And emo doesn’t come in “stages” it comes in an awful process. And if its so awful why am i or anyone else in it? Because we have reasons to be how we are. And quick tip. you don’t tell your parents. unless you want attention from them too. but it might not be the type of attention you were looking for.

I think emo-news.com is very good! But I disagree with the part about cutting your wrists! Yeah, some emos do it but I know loads of emos and only 2 or 3 of them cut their wrists. Also if a young person (10, 11 or 12) came on this website, because they was planning on becoming an emo, and they read this report, they might think cutting their wrists is the right thing to do!! Hopefully from this report, kids who want to be emos wait until they are older.
I really like this website because it isn’t like other sites, all the other emo websites tell you what to do and if you don’t do it your not emo. Im 12 and i cut myself a little. just for a distractions. last year i started off in a class where i knew no one, all the ables were filled and i wasnt popular. then they started calling me emo and… i liked it, so i started dressing like it. just a little. then i got my first bf and my grandma died so i dumped him (that and his friends were totally @$$#013s. they started making fun of me and so i continued with dressing in black and eyeliner. the cuts were and still are a great distraction to the fact that half of my family are on thier death beds. but you have to admit, im doing pretty well since i’m not a junkie
